Starfire Mixed Marigold Seeds

A mix of marigolds containing a wide range of yellows and oranges. Looks great planted between the strawberry patch which is where our flowers are normally set!

Here at Growseed, we are not big fans of Marigolds and they only get used for one thing only - protection. We think of marigolds as the great plant enforcer if you need to keep your strawberry plants safe then this is the best method we have found. Slugs for whatever reason will target the marigolds first over the strawberry plant so prevented measures can be put in place and away from the food source.

Ant's don't like the root system and will push any ant nest or pests well away from your strawberry plants. As an added bonus bees and other pollinating insects love them, which means all surrounding strawberry plants will a healthy dose of pollination resulting in a larger crop.

As the plants get eaten or stop flowering replace with another row of marigolds to help protect the strawberry plants through the entire fruiting process.

The bright flowering plants do help break up a field of green.

Do Starfire Marigolds come back every year? No, Starfire Marigolds are an annual flower. They will germinate quickly, grow, blossom and then die once the frost arrives in the autumn. New Marigolds can grow next year as they are self-seeding.

How do you keep marigolds blooming? Remove dead flower heads by cutting from the stem this process is known as "deadheading" regular dead heading along with a high potash feed will ensure a longer flowering season.

What pests do Starfire Marigolds repel? Many gardeners use Marigolds to remove troublesome pests from attacking their flowers and vegetables. Starfire Marigolds can repel flies and some aphids. However, Marigolds are also an attraction for other bad bugs like spider mites, slugs and snails.
