Californian Wonder Sweet Pepper Seeds

[75 days] Just like the peppers you’ll find in the supermarket, the California Wonder produces thick-walled, blocky green peppers, which turn to red if left on the plant. The fruits tend to be 4” tall and wide and particularly sweet. The plants can reach up to 30 inches tall and grow well either in large pots or planted directly in the ground, and when planted in greenhouses, needs little to no maintenance.

Aside from it’s amazing taste and abundant yield, part of the appeal of the California Wonder is that it’s resistant to the Tobacco Mosaic Virus, a common Solanaceae family disease that can seriously stunt your plants.

Start seed indoors 7-10 weeks before your last frost. Wait at least one week after your last frost, if planting outside. Spacing: 2’ apart in full sun.

Note: If you have access to grow lights and a heated propagator you can start sowing your plants in December and January to give you a head start on the year.

How do you grow California Wonder Sweet Pepper? Best started on a heated propagator for best results where possible set the thermostat to 18-21°C (65-70°F) for all greenhouse / polytunnel grown plants. February is the traditional time to sow your seeds however if you have access to a grow light you can start from late December. Once plants have two true leafs transplant to a pot and continue to transplant until 6 inches tall.

Do California Wonder sweet peppers turn red? Yes! You can harvest once the fruit reaches 3-4 inches in size however the longer you leave them on the plant the sweeter they become. Green peppers are normally underripe peppers!
