Description

Dwarf Green Kale Seeds

[45 days] A British staple introduced in the mid-1800s, this popular little brassica sports densely curled, green leaves and a dwarf habit. Unlike other kales, it thrives in poorer soils and windy environments, and will continue to produce tender greens even during harsh winter conditions. It’s perfect for unsheltered, windswept plots and allotments with poor soil. (Of course, it also does splendidly in rich soil too.)

Also known as “'Dwarf Curlies” because its leaves are so densely curled.

This variety does exceptionally well overwintering in our mild British climate.

Height: 45cm (18")

Common Questions

How tall does Dwarf Green Kale grow? Depending on the growing conditions dwarf green kale will grow to around 45cm or 18inches.

How to harvest Dwarf Green Kale? For best results harvest the shoots, leaving in the centre or the main stalk of the plant this will encourage new growth and will continue to regrow as long as you don not cut or harvest the middle of the plant. Harvesting is easy young fresh stalks can be cut by hand however to promote good health growth and avoid the risk of disease or rot we recommend cutting with a sharp clean knife.

How to grow Dwarf Green kale? Although you can sow directly to the ground we recommend starting off in pots and trays and transplant once the plant has grown 3-4 leafs it's normally strong enough to withstand the wind and colder temperatures the UK has to offer. This variety can be grown all year both outside and under cover (greenhouse or polytunnel)
