[300 days] One the first onions of the season, Shenshyu yellow globes were introduced to the UK from Japan in the early 70's. In the decades since, it’s proven to be a hardy, overwintering onion that can survive temperatures down to minus 18°C (0°F). The plant itself offers superb bulbs with crisp, white flesh and straw-coloured skins.
This particular onion grows well in heavy soils and provides large bulbs with half the effort of spring-sown varieties. And since they’re ready for harvest during the drier months of June and July, outdoor curing is as easy as pie!

Height: 45cm (18"). Spread: 10cm (4").
Delivery starts in late October - December.
This Japanese variety produced a semi globe-shaped, mild flavour onion. Although planting is recommended early September to mid-October you can plant this onion during a milder winter as late as December the later you plant the later the harvest will be. This popular Japanese onion offers excellent storage making it one of the better onions in our opinion to grow and store. To get the most out of this onion once lifted from the ground removed all dirt and allow to dry in the greenhouse or on a wire rack in full sun. Do not allow the onions to get wet!
Once dry (allow 5-7 days) inspect the bulb for any damage - damaged or bruised onions can be used now, the others can be stored in a shed or cool area out of direct sunlight and away from moisture, the onions will keep for 8-12months without any problems.
