Description

Viroflay Spinach Seeds

[50 days] An open-pollinated French heirloom, dating back to the early1800’s, Viroflay spinach is known for its “monstrous” leaves that can grow up to 20 cm long. But don’t worry, the size doesn’t negatively affect the flavor—the leaves maintain a fine flavor regardless of whether you harvest them at full size or as baby spinach. Grows quickly and does especially well in the fall/winter garden.

Common Questions

How do you grow Viroflay Spinach seeds? Sow your Viroflay seeds 1 inch deep with 2 inches of space between each. Your seeds will have germinated in 9 days. Plant seeds every 10 days between July and September for fresh Spinach leaves continuously.

Why are my Viroflay seedlings dying? Your Viroflay spinach may be suffering from fungus diseases. Pythium, Rhizoctonia, Fusarium and Phytophthora can cause your seeds to blight and die quickly. If your spinach seedlings have a disease then remove and destroy the crops immediately. You can help protect your plants from garden diseases by rotating your crop positioning every season.

Does Virolfay spinach need full sun? Viroflay is a fast growing plant that produces many leaves for you to enjoy during the growing season. Your spinach plant will really thrive in a full position spot in your garden, but can still produce leaves throughout in a partially shaded spot.
